Achievements so far...

Ryan Stanford's experiences as a sufferer of Alpers' Disease prove that despite the disease's rarity, it has an immense impact on the lives of those it affects. With so little public awareness of Alpers' Syndrome, and a corresponding lack of research funding, Ryan's plight has not received the attention that other conditions attract.

But although any treatments won't arrive in time to help Ryan, his parents want to use the Ryan Stanford Appeal to raise awareness of the disease and fund research into this terrible condition. Future sufferers of Alpers' Syndrome might benefit greatly from treatments and remedies which haven't been discovered yet - with the help of kind donations and sponsorships, Ryan's legacy can be one of hope for children who, in years to come, will find themselves in his position.

If you can do anything at all to help Ryan and his family in the tough times ahead, or help to raise wider awareness of Alpers' Disease so that a cure might be found, please get in touch.

FUNDRAISING IDEAS

Here is just a small list of fundraising ideas which you might wish to take part in to help raise funds for our appeal.

1. SPONSORED RUNS

We already have three people taking part in this years Great North Run over in Newcastle and a number of people taking part in the Blackpool 10K run this year.

We are in the process of looking into applying for a block number of places at various running events around the UK and will post them on here as we find more out.

If you are interested in taking part in a sponsored running event, please contact us and we will do all that we can to help you achieve this!

2. SPONSORED SWIMS

We are in the process of looking into the Great North Swim at Windermere.

If you are interested in taking part in a sponsored swimming event, whether it be indoor or outdoor, please contact us.

3. GOLFING EVENTS

If any golf clubs would be willing to let us organise a sponsored golfing event at your venue, please let me know!

4. SPONSORED PARACHUTE JUMP

Would you consider doing a solo static line parachute jump or a tandem skydive? We have a local parachute centre based in Cockerham, near Lancaster where you could do it!

You could do your sponsored parachute jump for FREE if you are able to raise at least :

£390 for static line solo parachute jump

£450 for tandem skydive

If you would prefer to take part in a sponsored parachute jump closer to you, please get in touch with us and we will see what we can arrange for you!

5. MOUNTAIN CHALLENGES

If anybody would like to take part in a mountain challenge (ie. Three Peaks - Ben Nevis, Scafell and Snowden in 24 hours, Yorkshire Three Peaks, Coast to Coast.....) or even a more challenging 15 peaks of Snowden for active mountain walkers already, please contact us on enquiries@ryanstanfordappeal.org.uk

The Junior and Mini Great Manchester Run returns to Eastlands on Saturday 19 ...May 2012, featuring as part of a great weekend of sport in Manchester.

The Mini event covers 2km and is suitable for children aged 3-8 years - all runners may be accompanied by an adult. The Junior event is 2 miles and suitable for those aged 9-15 years, with adult accompaniment optional.

Prizes are offered for the first three boys and girls in each Mini run wave and for the Junior run in the following categories:

Boys – 9-10 years, 11-12 years, 13-15 years
Girls – 9-10 years, 11-12 years, 13-15 years

All runners will receive a t-shirt, medal and finisher's pack.

Once again there will be a host of 'Come and Try It' activities on offer, giving children the chance to try new sports including football, streetdance and mini golf.

This is the North West's biggest and most popular junior running event. Don’t miss out!

The Junior and Mini Great North Run returns on Saturday 15 September ...2012 and in Olympic year it’s set to be better than ever, featuring as part of an action packed day on the stunning NewcastleGateshead Quayside.

Both routes will include a section of a purpose built athletics track which will see some of the world’s best athletes competing in the Great North CityGames on the same day, so who knows, you might be running over the same track as an Olympic medallist!

The Mini event covers 1.5km and is suitable for children aged 3-8 years - all runners may be accompanied by an adult. The Junior event is 4km and suitable for those aged 9-16 years, with adult accompaniment optional.

Prizes are offered for the first three boys and girls in each Mini run wave and for the Junior run in the following categories:

SATURDAY 17TH APRIL 2010 - CHARITY BAG PACK, SAINSBURYS, LANCASTER

We managed to raise an amazing £595.54 for the appeal!!

We raised £52.43 at the Baby Maze Baby & Toddler Show at the Platform, Morecambe.

Unfortunately, Ryan was extremely grumpy and cried the whole time so I apologise to everybody who heard him!

MONDAY 3RD MAY 2010 - 11:40AM START - GILLIONS 5K FUN RUN AT CROSBY, LIVERPOOL

Owen Gigg took part in the Gillions Fun Run and raised £130.00 + Gift Aid for the Ryan Stanford Appeal.

Ten people ran and completed the Beaverbrooks Blackpool 10K in aid of the Ryan Stanford Appeal.

MONDAY 10TH MAY 2010 - GREAT ECCLESTON LADIES NFU - CHARITY NIGHT, OUT RAWCLIFFE VILLAGE HALL

The Ryan Stanford Appeal and the Air Ambulance were both selected as this event's chosen charities.

The event consisted of a coffee evening with a buffet, a raffle, tombola, cake stall, plant stall, fresh produce stall and a gift stall.

We received a cheque for £515.00 for the appeal!!

MONDAY 17TH MAY 2010 - 9AM TO 6PM - DANA HAND CAR WASH, BULK ROAD, LANCASTER, LA1 1DF

Dana Hand Car Wash and its customers raised £150.00 for the appeal by having a charity car wash day.

17TH JULY 2011 - RYAN STANFORD APPEAL FAMILY FUN DAY ORGANISED BY CAROLINE WARNE, FAMILY AND FRIENDS AT KIRKHAM & WESHAM CRICKET CLUB, WOODLANDS AVENUE, KIRKHAM, PR4 2JQ

A good friend of ours, Caroline Warne is, along with her friends and family, organised a Charity Family Fun Day for the appeal at Kirkham Cricket Club, Nr Preston.The weather certainly was not our side hence many outdoor activities had to be cancelled however both myself and Dave were touched to see how many people had turned up to support the appeal. They raised a grand total of £311.75 for the appeal. Without people like these giving their time and effort to raise funds for the appeal, we would not be where we are today.... Thank you so much to everybody - both organisers and those who supported the event in some way...

P.S. Caroline, family and friends also rallied round to get winners prizes and auction prizes for the golf competition - this has so far generated a further £50.00 for the appeal xx

Massive thanks to the 13 people who took part in the sponsored pub crawl last Saturday - 31 pubs in under 13 hours. Just from collecting in the pubs you visited, you raised £613.09!! Obviously then the sponsor money is on top of this. 18TH SEPTEMBER 2011 - GREAT NORTH RUN

Dave Stanford, Jaclyn Redman, Chris Gillow and Rob Taylor completed the Great North Run collectively raising over £2,500 for the appeal. The Great North Run is a half marathon in Newcastle - this was a mammoth effort made by all four of them - we are extremely grateful for your support and well done.

A brand new hotly tipped X Factor contestant will join a host of household names, including Coronation Street’s ‘Tracy Barlow’ - actress Kate Ford, Britain’s Got Talent’s Steve Hall and Morecambe’s antiques expert Paul Hayes, star of TV’s Bargain Hunt and Cash in the Attic will be teaming up with comedians and artistes at The Bay on Friday 16^th September for a special recording of The Pretenders’ and Girls Aloud classic,” I’ll Stand By You”. With generous support from Furness Building Society and Lancaster & Morecambe College, a CD of the recording will then go on sale, with proceeds going to local charity The Ryan Stanford Appeal. Amy Jo Clough, the 14 year old Carnforth High pupil from Bolton Le Sands takes lead vocals on the recording.

After Amy won the recent Furness Building Society Charity Challenge she donated her winning cheque to the appeal. Ryan Stanford was due to attend the evening but was too poorly, and the idea of recording a CD evolved from wishing to let him listen to the winning track. Amy’s mum Ellie Singleton, Theatre Manager at The Lancaster Grand, then approached The Bay to work with them on the project and the idea for “I’ll Stand By You, a song for Ryan” was borne. Amy Jo is really looking forward to Friday 16^th September: “It feels fantastic to be singing for Ryan once again. This is a really exciting project and I hope Ryan’s parents are pleased with the final CD”

The Bay’s Managing Director, Bill Johnston, commented: “This is a wonderful project to be organising with Ellie and the support we have received from everyone has been superb. The celebrity list is growing by the day and I’ve no doubt it will raise lots of awareness and vital cash for the appeal.”

Ian Bell from Furness Building Society also added, “It is an absolute pleasure for Furness Building Society to be supporting the charity CD to raise funds and awareness of Alpers’ Disease and The Ryan Stanford Appeal. Amy Jo was the worthy winner of the Furness Charity Challenge this year where she won £1,000 towards the Appeal.”

Actress Kate Ford takes time away from the cobbles of Weatherfield, where she plays the conniving Tracy Barlow, to lend her vocal talents to the recording on Friday;

“Although I have an incredibly busy working schedule, I am absolutely delighted to have been asked to support such a worthwhile charity, The Ryan Stanford Appeal. I am very much looking forward to recording for the charity CD from which all the proceeds will go into researching Ryan’s condition, Alpers Disease. I know the CD, ‘I’ll Stand By You’ a song for Ryan will touch people’s hearts.” Kate Ford

TV favourite Steve Hall added, “This is a way of giving something back to North Lancashire and South Cumbria following the enormous support I received on Britain’s Got Talent. I really hope it raises much needed funds to research Ryan’s condition and helps others in the future.” and Paul Hayes is looking forward to join the ensemble, “(I’m) glad to be involved with such a worthwhile charity and looking forward to recording on the day”.

The CD of the recording will go on sale in November with proceeds going to The Ryan Stanford Appeal, which supports research into Alpers’ Disease, a genetic condition. The appeal is named after Ryan Stanford, 3 from Lancaster, who was diagnosed with Alpers when he was less than 12 months old.

“Both as Ryan’s parents and trustees of The Ryan Stanford Appeal, we are really excited about the prospects for the CD and very much looking forward to its release.

Raising money to fund the research project into Alpers’ Syndrome and raising awareness to Alpers and The Ryan Stanford Appeal has been key to everything we have been doing. A cure or effective treatment will never be found for this condition unless we keep pushing the research into it.

We are so grateful to Amy Jo, who at 14 years old, has raised a huge amount of money already for the appeal and who still strives to further our fundraising and awareness…. We have been truly overwhelmed by the support of the celebrities, the Bay…Furness Building Society, Lancaster & Morecambe College, Amy Jo…and all other parties who have been working together to achieve putting these CDs out to sale. 30 year old Carolynne Poole brings her singing talents to The Bay as well, ahead of her appearance on the X Factor this weekend. Self confessed fan, judge and Take That star Gary Barlow, will be seen by millions tipping Carolynne to win the show! Speaking on this weekend’s episode of The X Factor Gary says: “That was absolutely spectacular. I would buy your album right now. There is so much possibility here, I’d take you in my category right now.” He goes on to add: “You know what? I believe we’ve found a winner.”

Local artists, The Seraphims, Lisa Hart, Paul Akister and comedian Lester Crabtree will also be joining the cast of singers, alongside Ryan’s 12 year old sister Megan Stanford. Star of BBC’s ‘Autistic Superstars’ and fresh from performing at New York’s infamous Carnegie Hall, Carly Ryan will also be lending her vocal talents to the recording and she will be joined by Lucie Evans, a recent national winner of Festival4 Stars, swing artist Si Conway, singer Kay McLoughlin, The Bay Breakfast Host Danny Matthews, newsreader Christine Burns and casting agent Tony Young. Other names are being added all the time. Students from Lancaster & Morecambe College will also be taking part with vocals as well as behind the scenes support.
